Welcome to Saint Leo the Great Catholic School, a pre-K through eighth grade school where education, service, and faith combine to provide each student a foundation of high standards in knowledge and ethics.
As a Catholic elementary and middle school, Saint Leo the Great Catholic School’s teaching philosophy is guided by the belief that each student is a unique gift of God, created with special gifts and talents. It is our goal to nurture and develop those gifts to the benefit of the Church and the community.
Saint Leo’s is proud to be accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Accreditation by MSCES is recognized around the world as an indication of trustworthiness, educational quality and a commitment to ongoing school improvement.
Saint Leo the Great Catholic School exists to develop disciples of Jesus Christ within a secure Catholic atmosphere. As a school community, we endeavor to strengthen the covenant between school and family to educate the whole child spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially. We are committed to forming 21st century learners, well-prepared in their quest to succeed and serve. The Diocese of Harrisburg guides us in our pursuits.
Our Culture
At Saint Leo the Great Catholic School, we understand that choosing a school is one of the most important and difficult decisions parents must make. But our school is about more than just education. It is about choosing a culture in which children will begin a lifelong journey of learning and discovery. At Saint Leo the Great Catholic School, children experience outstanding academics, excellent teachers, abundant activities, and modern technological resources.
But all of these assets are of little value without the faith that will enhance them. That’s why our school embraces three basic tenets that form the foundation of who we are, what we do and how we do it – faith, education and community service.
Faith: Saint Leo the Great Catholic School exists “to develop disciples of Jesus Christ.” We do not simply instill faith through education and activities. We use faith as the foundation from which students can be taught and involved in activities. It is this foundation that provides the strength in commitment for a quality learning experience.
Education: With smaller grade sizes and personal attention, students have an excellent environment for learning. Our teachers are able to provide a consistent level of quality so that our students have some of the highest testing scores in the Harrisburg Diocese. This, along with a diverse offering of extra-curricular activities, allows for all students to develop both intellectually and physically.
Community Service: Christian faith requires service to those in need. Each student at Saint Leo’s has the opportunity to serve those in need through projects and events scheduled in the class as well as extracurricular activities. Whether it is singing Christmas hymns in a senior citizen community, or working for a donated food and clothing drive, the call to serve is enacted so that each student fully understands the importance of service in the Christian faith at an early age.
We are truly committed to developing 21st century learners by providing a foundation that encourages the development of the whole child. We believe every child deserves a Catholic education.
Get to Know Our Principal:
My name is Jennifer Miller and I’m so excited to be here at St. Leo’s as your principal. I’ve been in Catholic Education my entire career. The Diocese of Harrisburg has been my home for over 24 years. I’ve taught many grades and have worked with all ages of students. St. Leo’s has been my home since 2013 teaching first grade.
My husband Scott and I have two children. Our son Ethan is a senior this year and our daughter is in 9th grade. Our weekends are filled with hockey games and dance competitions.
I attended PSU (but cheer for the Fighting Irish), received my Masters at Cabrini University as a Reading Specialist and my principals certificate through MaryWood University.
In my free time I love to be outside, walk my two dogs, Maverick and Bauer. I also enjoy grilling, baking and gardening. In the summer months, I enjoy spending time with family and visiting my parents at their lake house in Upstate NY.
I am devoted to the children here at St. Leo’s and want all of them to receive a quality Catholic Education. One of my favorite places to be is in the classrooms! I love spending time with all the children here at school. Their love for learning and smiles are contagious! You can’t help but smile at yourself!
One of my favorite quotes from Mother Teresa and great words to live by! “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
