The school board serves as an advisory board to the parish and school administration. We are here to support the mission and Catholic values of the school and to ensure that it continues to provide a high-quality, Christ-centered education for our children. We have a wonderful board who works tirelessly to support the school and its staff. We are here to listen and to work together to make our school the best it can be. The Chairperson of the School Board will be elected prior to the end of the year for the following school year. New and current Board members are eligible for election to this position.
Some of the areas that the school board focuses on are:
- Academic excellence and curriculum consultation
- Enrollment and marketing
- Finance and budget
- Facilities and maintenance
- Safety and security
- Strategic planning and long-term vision
Standing Committees:
- Planning – collaborate with the administration to assess the school’s needs, and monitor the long-range school plan
- Building & Grounds – address needs of the building and grounds including planning; make recommendations for the better use of educational facilities and to propose new facilities as the need arises
- Policy – address policy needs, review policy drafts, and propose any policy changes
- Nominations – oversee outreach, usually in the beginning of each calendar year, to School and Parish community for submission of applications, review applications of prospective Board members and communicate them to the Board; communicate with applicants and provide School Board information to new members once approved
- Security & Safety – routinely assess safety needs and address gaps in security; propose and then assist in facilitating any safety training for School staff
- Academics – collaborate with the Principal to monitor outcomes; propose any suggested ways to strengthen the basic academic program; recommend and then assist, if needed, in the implementation of enhancement programs for teachers and students
Ad Hoc Committees:
- PTO – report on functions planned and executed by the parent-teacher organization
- Athletics – report on enrollment in athletic programs of CYO and inform Board of participation in CYAA athletics
- Development – plan overall development of the school including marketing, case statement, and development fund campaign, as well as community outreach
- Finance – act as a liaison between the Parish Finance Council to assist, if needed, in the preparation of the Parish Budget develop the annual budget and present regular financial reports to the full Board
- Spiritual Life – report on activities and needs of the Spiritual Life Committee

Ryan Green (Chair)
My name is Ryan Green, and I have three children attending the school: Joseph, Conor, and Daniel. My wife Sara and I belong to Saint Leo the Great Parish, and we are very grateful for the wonderful education and community that the school provides. In addition to being the chair of the school board, I lead the Safety and Security subcommittee team.
I attended Catholic elementary (LaSalle) and high school (Holy Name) in Reading, PA and earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Millersville University. Outside of school, I coach CYAA boy’s baseball teams and I work in regulatory compliance at a biopharmaceutical company.

Christina Hoover
Hello! My name is Christina Hoover. Saint Leo The Great School is a family affair for us: My husband Matt is a Saint Leo alumni, my mother-in-law Sharon runs the office, and my sister-in-law Lora is head of Saint Leo’s café. My niece Adrienne is in 7th grade and my nephew Anthony is in 4th grade. I have 2 children, Marissa and Luca. Marissa is in Kindergarten with Mrs. M.; Luca is starting in the 2yr old preschool at Noah’s Ark. My husband and I are both educators. He teaches 5th grade at LS and I am a reading specialist in the Hempfield School District. I am entering my 13th year of teaching this year. We live in Mount Joy. I look forward to volunteering on this board and being in a more active role at Saint Leo The Great School. Wishes to all for a wonderful, happy & healthy school year!

John Kauffman
Hello! My name is John Kauffman and this is my second year serving on the School Board. My wife Becky and I have been married for 13 years have two children Zoey (6th Grade) and Nora (3rd Grade) attending Saint Leo the Great School. We live in Columbia and I am a graduate of LCHS and Millersville University. My wife Becky is an RN in the Labor and Delivery sector and I am in the world of Sales at Kleen Rite Corporation. I have a passion for the game of basketball and you may find me volunteering with the girl’s basketball program here at Saint Leo. Saint Leo the Great School has been a blessing for our family and we look forward to another great school year.

Matt Dusablon
Matt Dusablon is in his second year on the Saint Leo the Great School Board. He is married to Kristin, the preschool teacher at SLTG, and they are blessed with six children: Caden, Olivia, Sophia, Mason, Dylan, and Emma. A 1997 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Matt earned his undergraduate degree from the University of West Florida and is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a master’s degree from Webster University.
After retiring from a 21-year military career, Matt transitioned to a role at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, where his team designs and builds missile system components. Outside of his professional life, he coaches SLTG boys basketball, CYAA Crusaders football, and serves as Vice President of the Crusader Youth Athletic Association.
Matt is excited for another great year at SLTG.

Michele Bertini
My name is Michele Bertini and I grew up in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where I attended Holy Family School from grades 1-8. I graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. I worked as a nurse in various roles before taking a long-term sabbatical to stay home and raise my children: Anthony age 3, Lucy age 1, with one on the way, and one in heaven. I have been a parishioner of Saint Leo the Great since 2020 when I married my husband, Gabe, and moved to Lancaster. We are hoping to send our children to Saint Leo’s School and I am here with the School Board to start engaging with the school. I will be heading the Policy committee.

Daniel Valore
I oversee litigation management and minimize insurance related risk exposure for a variety of for-profit and non-profit clientele. My wife and I have two children who attend SLTG (6th and 4th grade). This will be my first year serving on the board and I look forward to a productive year.

Keith Verner
Keith Verner is a Founding Partner of Oxano Group, a fractional and interim C-suite consulting firm that supports growing organizations with executive leadership and strategy. In addition to his business and operational expertise, Keith previously served as President of a neurocognitive-based K–12 curriculum company, working with hundreds of schools—primarily Catholic—across the country. He and his wife, April, are parishioners of Saint Leo the Great Church and proud parents of two Saint Leo students: Simon and Hannah.
Keith believes that Catholic education represents the greatest opportunity for children to grow into disciples of Christ who are also equipped to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Mary Kate Walsh
Hello! I am Mary Kate Walsh. I have an invested interest in the growth and success of Saint Leo the Great School and I am so excited to begin my term on the school board. I am an alumnus of Saint Leo the Great as well as Lancaster Catholic High School and I attended Mount Saint Mary’s University where I received a degree in Elementary Education. I taught first grade for ten years but currently I stay at home with my children.
My husband, Mike and I have four children: Maeve, Michael, Desmond, and Beau (a future Lion).
I look forward to working with the rest of the board to continue growing and improving our school.

Mary Whalen
My name is Mary Whalen. My husband, Brendan, and I both grew up in Lancaster attending Catholic school. I attended Sacred Heart School K-8, as did my father! I graduated from LCHS in 2007 and went on to receive my BS in Psychology from Kutztown University and my MS in Psychology from Millersville University. I received additional training at MU to receive my PA Certification in School Psychology. I have been practicing as a School Psychologist for the last 10 years, working in public school districts, Lancaster Lebanon IU13, and more recently, independently for area school districts and public cyber charter schools.
Brendan and I have two children at the school. I am excited for this opportunity to merge my skills as a school psychologist with the perspective of a parent to serve the SLTG advisory board.
